Most of the cameras created and developed during the 70s do not have built in light meters but instead have selenium cells that do not function well in cold winters. This is also one of the reasons why light meters have become important features of modern cameras.

Light meters are used to read the light as well as estimate the amount of light exposure that an object is receiving. This is because light is an important consideration in getting that perfect picture.

There are actually two types of light metering methods that photo experts employed and these are as follows:

• Reflective meters are used to measure the light reflecting off the subject. A subject that is wearing a color white clothes would reflect more light compared to a person wearing dark colored clothes. Theoretically both colors should be able t get the same exposure on film.

• Center-weighted or spot metering or matrix metering is used for computerized cameras and also aims to determine the proper exposure of subjects to light.
